​Mentoring is  the process of helping or advising a less experienced person

THE PROJECT

• From July 2024 to June 2026, Dixon House will be matching international students to retired professional mentors, providing relevant workshops, and volunteering opportunities.
  

Aim:

• To empower international students by addressing cultural and language barriers, fostering social connections, building self-confidence, and alleviating future-related anxieties. 
• ​Cultivate empathy among local stakeholders by engaging them in activities that enhance their understanding of the international student experience.

These are to be achieved through:

• facilitating mentoring relationships
• offering informative and relevant workshops; and
• offering enriching volunteering opportunities.

Target groups

• ​international students studying, living, or working in the City of Monash
• suitably experience individuals wanting to serve as mentors, workshop presenters, and project assistants

Workshop EXPRESSION OF INTEREST

The challenge for international students is not just passing their course, but having to adjust to a different environment, culture, language, and systems.  Any Australian who has travelled or lived overseas for any length of time will appreciate the challenges of adapting to a foreign environment.

We are planning to run useful workshops covering topics such as:

• Immigration
• Language Skills Development
• Financial Literacy
• Safety and Health
• Life in Australia
